The Criterion Hotel Motel is a historic pub on Quay Street in central Rockhampton, with pub rooms upstairs and modern motel rooms.
Built in 1889 on the banks of the Fitzroy River, the hotel has 26 pub rooms upstairs with some old-world character and a mix of ensuites and shared bathrooms. Its 18 motel rooms were added in 2004 beside the Bush Inn Bar & Grill steakhouse and have off-street parking. The bar shows off original exposed brickwork, and the former grand ballroom is now a function room. During the Second World War the building served as a US Army headquarters. Guests often mention welcoming staff, good pub food and the old building's charm.
Looking for a feed after 20:00 in Rockhampton- good luck with that, however, this pub takes orders to I believe 21:00 on weeknights. That is usually after the time that most others are ( as I experienced also) literally asking you to pay the bill and push you out of the doors. So, bonus 1, bonus 2, the pub food was quite OK, the beer selection was-conservative tho'. Bonus 3, nice quaint place with competent staff. So yes, recommend this place.
Last night at Criterion Hotel Rocky the rest of the dinner was overall okay but the green beans served with my salmon were old and bad and it was truly frustrating because fresh green or French beans should taste good and have a better texture in fact I know if they’re fresh and new. 2 ladies who served me was so kind smiling and warmly welcoming
Fantastic meal, great value. Lemon garlic chicken whilst cooked perfectly could be improved as the lemon is the overpowering taste on an otherwise great meal. Kids pasta was excellent value and tasted great. Sticky date pudding was delicious but might be better served in a bowl. Restaurant hard to understand seating arrangements and seating options are poor, staff were just good (some checked out whilst others going above) and even on a busy night food was prompt.
Amazing find in a great Queensland town. Historical and beautiful building, walking distance to everything. New barman Aydden is a great hire, outstanding personality and mixes drinks with precision. Try a Negroni, or an original Mai Tai (not the fruity kind, the classic kind) wont disapoint. Food choices are also great, quality, portions and price, all spot on.
