Duke Of Marlborough Hotel

We chose The Duke in Russell Nz for Sunday lunch to celebrate a family birthday. We normally each order a main dish but on this occasion we chose a starter, two entrees and a lamb share plate between three adults. This was a great choice as we had the starter and entrees brought out together to enjoy while we waited for the main dish. That gave us plenty of delicious, beautifully cooked and presented food. The service was friendly and lighthearted and the atmosphere was warm and cosy inside on this cold day. There were however lots of diners out in the balcony enjoying the view from behind the clears. Very impressed!

Great experience in all aspects. Camilla at reception was excellent - she booked a tour for us, quickly sorted out a minor issue in our room and arranged an extra night with minimal fuss (despite the hotel being quite full). Our room was pretty swanky. Very clean and nicely decorated. The staff in the restaurant and bar were awesome, particularly Richard. We had nice dinner, wine, dessert by the fire and whisky to finish. Lovely experience. Location, right on the beach near the wharf, could not be better.

this place just keeps getting better and better. the location is fantastic. beautiful views over the harbour. the dining room/bar area is inspirational. we ate at the restaurant and the food was interesting and delicious. the staff were so friendly and professional. the rooms are basic but very clean. this place is a gem.

Me and my mate stumbled upon this place on a little road trip to Russell and the food was stunning with great ocean views. There was a lovely waitress with the name Bianca that was hard working, personable and loves to smile. I wanted to leave this review to say thanks for helping us today. Your wine recommendation was perfect and we had a fantastic experience. Have a wonderful week and stay warm!

A stormy Bay of Islands for Kings b'day so thought we needed to laze by the fire and have a good feed - the Duke didn't disappoint. The fires were burning and inside was cosy and warm. We settled into a leatehr couch with our drinks and nattered away. Moved to our table and the food was lovely. Starters was Aunties fried bread and crispy eggplant - yummy. Good portions on the eggplant and the chili caramel was decadent. Mains were Panfried Snapper and a Chicken salad. The snapper was cooked to perfection and the beautiful pea puree and tartar crema on top of agria potatoes made it delicious. Stole some of my wifes chicken salad and it was yummy - tasty chicken thigh with a peanut dressing and shredded carrot and cucumber. All in all great ambience 5/5, great service 4/5, great food 5/5 and price reasonable 4/5. Highly recommend
